Genesis - An Interview with Dr. Terry Mortenson (Answers In Genesis)

Understanding what the book of Genesis says about the origin of all things is foundational to understanding the Bible. If chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis are not the truth about the beginning of all things, how can we believe the rest of the scriptures? Especially when the New Testament claims that our creator is also our redeemer. Because if God is not our creator, how can he be our redeemer?

In an "evolving world," defending the Christian worldview is not easy, and many Christians lack the knowledge and confidence to mount a vigorous defense of the Bible. Unfamiliarity with God's Word and what it says about how everything came to be is not a justification for a retreat from the battlefield of ideas.

In this episode, our guest Dr. Terry Mortenson (from Answers in Genesis), will join us for an insightful discussion on how scriptures answer the many questions that a surprising number of Christians have about creation. Worldly ideas that contradict God's Word do not need to be a source of fear and confusion. The scriptures have the answers you need to have understanding and confidence in the only book that the creator of the universe authored just for us - The Bible.

Our Guest Bio: Terry Mortenson

Dr. Terry Mortenson A speaker, writer, and researcher for Answers in Genesis. B.A. math (Univ. of Minn.), M.Div. (Trinity Evang. Div. Sch.) Ph.D. (history of geology, Coventry Univ., England) Thesis focused on origin of geological theory that earth is millions of years old and how the church quickly compromised with that idea. Before joining AiG in 2001, served 26 years with Campus Crusade for Christ (almost 20 years in Eastern Europe both before & after the fall of communism). Since the late 1970s he has spoken on creation and evolution in 35 countries and has participated in 7 formal debates with PhD evolutionary scientists in 4 countries. Author of many articles and The Great Turning Point: The Church’s Catastrophic Mistake on Geology—Before Darwin (2004) Co-editor and contributor to 14-author Coming to Grips with Genesis (2008) Editor and contributed to 16-author Searching for Adam (2016) Married 46 years to Margie & they have 8 kids & 20 grandkids

Hey, I’m Christian. By God’s grace, my life is rooted in Jesus Christ, and that shapes everything: how I love my wife, how I show up as a dad to my two girls (Luna and Camila), and how I try to serve the people around me. Alongside my wife, I co-own Dearly Beloved Weddings, where we capture weddings through photo and video.

I’m also a worship leader, and it’s a genuine joy to help people see Jesus more clearly. For me, worship is less about musical style and more about heart posture. I love studying Scripture and theology because I want my life and leadership to exalt God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and I’m still learning to live from the reality of my union with Christ.

There’s nothing like a good laugh, morning coffee, and a deep, thoughtful conversation. My favorite foods include Indian, Thai, and Spanish, and dry cereal is a go-to snack. One future goal of mine is to create and film an original short film.
